I just read an article about employee incentive programs.
There are many possibilities to motivate employees besides simply paying more.
Personally I think the best incentives are these, where you are able to spend some time with your colleagues outside of the office.
As all of us already worked for some time, what did you experience?
Which incentive would you like?
Which incentive would you offer to your employees or which ones you would not?
I really like the idea of finding other solutions than paying more to motivate employees. Sure, work must not be underpaid and if a person does not earn enough and therefore has no motivation to do his job well, an increase in salary also leads to an increase in motivation. But apart from this, the article shows that there are various options. I think it is important to find the right solution for every individual. Not everything fits to every employee. For example, if you want to give your staff more freedom through home office or flex time, you have to consider that this possibility is not appreciated by everyone. That´s why some incentives should not be implemented for the whole company, but could be matched up with departments or teams. If other groups also welcome the incentive, they can also implement it.
AntwortenLöschenThe article is interesting. From the points mentioned, I prefer “Celebrate the wider Business Family”. Everyone has someone who is important to them and who supports them. If an employee sees that his relatives are respected and appreciated from his workplace, he will like working there even more.
Until now, I only gained experience during internships. What I really appreciated as an intern during my PTS was the integration. I was able to participate in any meeting and conference, which does not happen in every company. They also gave me the chance to give creative input. This made me feel important for the company and therefore I liked working there.
I think it is best for companies to implement a kind of "cafeteria plan" for the employees were they can chose the incentive that best fit their needs.
AntwortenLöschenSince not everyone has the same needs it is not constructive to give everyone the same incentive to show appreciation for good performances. There may be people who prefer a monetary reward and others that benefit more from greater flexibility in working hours.
I personally like the point "Workplace Wellness programme" because it shows the employees that their health and well-being is important to the company. However, I can imagine that such a prize for quitting smoking may not be appreciated by everyone.
Incentives – isn’t it what we all want or even need? But where does this need begin for every individual? For some a simple ‘Thank you’ is already a big achievement in motivation, others strive for money, flexible working hours or wellness programmes. As Silvia and Sabine already mentioned above, every company which is planning to implement incentive options should consider the needs of their human capital. This depends heavily on the size of the organization. From experiences I can say that in a small production company with few employees efforts often go without saying, no recognition at all and this over decades. In this case a simple step in improving the internal communication atmosphere would make a huge difference. Of course, in big companies this looks already more complex. I also worked for a big company which strongly focuses on their employees’ motivation in organizing family days, sports days, flexible working hours etc. If this is offered for a big group of employees, is there still place for individual motivation? I think there is, but where does this lead to?
